While the Greene County Democrats are holding a special convention Aug.14 for the purpose of nominating candidates for county supervisor seats in the November general election, county residents are reminded that persons can run with no party affiliation by filing a nominating petition. A minimum of 65 signatures is needed for a candidate’s name to appear on the ballot. The filing deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 5 pm in the county auditor’s office.
Positions up for election Nov. 6 include county supervisor from Districts 2 and 3, county recorder, county treasurer, and county attorney.
Candidates to date include Republican incumbents Dawn Rudolph and Tom Conter in supervisor Districts 2 and 3, respectively; incumbent recorder Democrat Marcia Tasler for recorder; incumbent treasurer Democrat Donna Lawson and Republican Katlynn Gannon-Mechaelsen for treasurer; and assistant county attorney Libertarian Thomas Laehn for county attorney.
Persons who wish at this time to be a candidate as a Republican, Democrat or Libertarian must go through a special convention process.
Non-partisan positions on the Nov. 6 ballot include the Greene County Extension council, Greene County Medical Center board of trustees, and Greene County soil and water commissioners.
There are other non-political seats up for election Nov. 6: Greene County Extension council, Greene County soil and water commission, and Greene County Medical Center board of trustees. Nominating petitions require 24signatures for the Extension council and soil and water commission, and 50 for medical center board of trustees.
